Image editing · Magic eraser
Paint over the thing that spoils the photo and run. It leaves, and the background heals behind it. No hole, no smudge, no sign it was ever there. Flip the street scene, a real GPT Image 2 render, and spot the only thing that changes.
01 · The clutter
The usual intruders, filed by kind. Yours will fit one of them, or all of them on a bad day at a good location.
Photobombers
The stranger mid-stride behind the couple, the crowd that would not thin out. Paint them and the street closes over where they stood.
The street, back to yourselves.
Wires and poles
The power line that slices every rooftop shot, the pole growing out of a head. One thin stroke and the sky knits back together.
The skyline, uncut.
Curbside clutter
Bins, cones, a stray cup on the table. Small things that read louder in the photo than they ever did in person.
The scene you remember.
One rule, about rights rather than pixels. The eraser removes whatever you paint over, watermarks and people included. Use it on photos you own or have permission to edit, never on someone else's work.
Part of the Image Editing floor02 · The wider mess
Sometimes the clutter is your own workbench, spread across the whole frame, and the listing needs the product alone. Painting every shaving is slow work, and a sentence can name the lot. This desk went to GPT Image 2 with one.
Sent to GPT Image 2, in full
“remove all the wood shavings, tools and cables from the desk, leaving only the sneaker on clean wood”
If you can paint over the mess, the eraser can take it out. When it covers the whole frame, say it in AI Edit instead, on the same canvas.
03 · The brush
Everything the eraser asks of your hand, printed the way we print bills. A paint brush and an unpaint brush share one dial, and the editor goes fullscreen when the edges get fiddly.
Cover the whole object and a little extra. Overshoot costs nothing, because the unpaint brush takes back any stroke you did not mean.
A 5px point traces a stray wire. An 80px sweep covers a whole person in a few passes. The dial runs the entire range in between.
When the target hides between railings or hair, take the editor fullscreen and let the small brush work at real size.

04 · The boundary
The magic eraser and AI inpainting share the same painted mask and disagree only about the verb. Knowing which one you need saves a pass.
This page · Magic eraser
Paint the object and run. It leaves the frame and the background closes over the spot where it stood. The eraser sends its own instruction with your mask, so you never type a word.
In · a maskOut · absence
Next door · AI Inpainting
The same painted mask, plus a sentence describing what should grow there instead. Something new stands where the old thing stood.
In · a mask and a promptOut · a replacement
The third verb is keep. When everything except the subject should go, you want the Background Remover, not a very large mask.
Open the Background Remover05 · The bench
The studio's eraser reads your painted mask pixel for pixel: what you paint goes, and the background around it is rebuilt. A fill you do not love is one re-run away.
GPT Image 2 healed the cobbles behind the scooter at the top of this page in a direct render. In the studio, erasing runs on a dedicated mask engine, and replacing what you painted with something new runs on the edit engines below.
Version history keeps every pass. Step back to any earlier state of the edit, repaint, and run it again until the fill is invisible.
You paint over an object in your photo and run it. The object is removed and the background is filled in behind it, so the scene closes over the gap instead of leaving a hole or a smudge.
Cover the whole object with the paint brush, sized anywhere from 5 to 80px, and take the editor fullscreen when you need precision around fiddly edges. If you paint too far, the unpaint brush takes back the overshoot. The background heals behind whatever you painted.
The eraser removes: paint over a thing and the background fills in where it was. Inpainting replaces: you paint the same kind of mask, then describe what should appear there instead. Same brush, opposite verbs.
Yes. Version history keeps every state of the edit, so you can step back to any earlier pass, repaint, and run it again, with the same engine or a different one.

The eraser will remove whatever you paint over, including watermarks and people. The rule is about rights, not pixels: use it on photos you own or have permission to edit, not on someone else's work.
